Seminar on the Glossary of the European Migration Network
Use of proper terms in Media
The Broadcasting Authority is organizing a one-day seminar on the Glossary of Terminology published by the European Migration Network. This glossary improves comparability by enabling a common understanding and use of terms and definitions relating to asylum and migration.
The Glossary draws on a variety of sources, but primarily on the legislation of the EU Asylum and Immigration Acquis, and makes terms available in the majority of Member State languages. This is a useful tool which local broadcasters should make use of.
This seminar is being organized with the collaboration of Prof Anthony Aquilina from the University of Malta who will be speaking about the terminology used in asylum and migration issues while Mr Adriel Vella from the Broadcasting Authority will be presenting practical examples of mis-representation of such issues in local programmes broadcast on television.
The seminar will be held at the
Osborne Hotel, Valletta
on Friday, 30th September 2016
from 9:30am to 11:30am.
Registration for this seminar will open on the same day at 9:00am. All broadcasters, journalists, editorial houses, and the print media are invited to attend.
